Creating a Unique Login ID is Just as Important as a Strong Password
Last year we upgraded our online and mobile banking service. The new platform offers many new features not provided before the upgrade. One of the new options that you may have overlooked is the ability to select a unique login ID. Our new platform does not require you to use your member number the way that the old online banking system did. Instead, it allows you to create a new login ID at any time from your computer or mobile phone. If you are still using your member number as your login ID for online banking, we encourage you to change it to a unique Login ID that uses a combination of letters and numbers.
Why Is a Unique Login ID Important?
We put so much emphasis on strong and complex passwords, but it is just as essential to have a secure login ID that does not match other personal information about you or your bank accounts. After all, the login ID is one-third of the authentication credentials needed to log in to your accounts online. So make sure you put as much thought into your login ID as you do your password.
How do I change my Login ID in MEMCU Online or Mobile?
You can change your login ID anytime. Here are the steps to make that change:
- Login to MEMCU Online or Mobile.
- In the Settings tab, click Security Preferences.
- Click the Change Login ID button.
- Enter your new login ID.
- Click the Submit button.
How do I decide what to use for my Login ID?
Your login ID should be a minimum of six characters and a maximum of 14 characters. Don’t use your account number, full name, phone number, or social security number. It is best to use something that only you would remember and use a combination of letters and numbers. The Login ID field will support special characters. If you create a login ID that is already being used by another member, you will not be able to submit the login ID.
Selecting a better login ID will add an extra layer of security to your online banking service. If you are using a weak login ID, consider changing it as soon as possible. Remember that MCU will never call you and ask you for your login ID, so never give it to anyone. You are the first line of defense for your online banking.
