Mocksville, N.C. (October 17, 2018) – Members Credit Union (MCU) held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Davie County High School (DCHS) to commemorate the opening of War Eagle Credit Union (WECU), the first student-run credit union branch for both DCHS and MCU. War Eagle Credit Union, named for the high school’s mascot, is located within the school building and is open to students, faculty and staff on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is a surcharge-free, stand-alone ATM called War Eagle Cash located in the main common area that is available when school is open for class and special events.

Students and faculty attended the ribbon cutting ceremony along with Dr. Darrin Hartness, Davie County School Board Superintendent; Clint Junker, Davie County School Board Chairman; Dan Schline, Carolinas Credit Union League President and CEO; Congressman Ted Budd; William A.Tittsworth and MCU Board Chairman; Bob Donley, MCU President and CEO.

“We are committed to financial education for our students and have been partnering with Davie County schools for almost 10 years at the middle school and high school level. We are so pleased to take this next step to stay on the road and continue the education of our students, equipping them with the tools they need to live meaningful and successful lives as they move on from Davie County High School,” said Donley.

MCU will hire five student tellers to run the high school branch. There will be a full-time credit union staff member on-site to supervise student tellers while the branch is open. Student tellers will open checking accounts and savings accounts, promote the credit union and provide basic services to their peers and teachers. Faculty and staff may apply for loans with the credit union’s loan offers online or at other MCU branch locations.

At WECU, one must be a member to open an account and membership is exclusive to DCHS students, faculty and staff. However, since the student-run credit union is a branch of the Winston-Salem based MCU, members of WECU are also members of MCU and eligible to use its branch locations and services. When a student or employee joins WECU their immediate family members are eligible to join MCU.
