October 1, 2004 -Members Credit Union (Winston-Salem, NC) helped “light” Greensboro’s night sky in an incredible effort to raise money, awareness, and hope for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Over 600 walkers carrying illuminated balloons walked around Greensboro’s Country Park. $3,585 of that money came from Memebers Credit Union member donations and walker sponsorships.
“It was a very emotional evening for myself and my husband,” reflected MCU’s Kristen Faulkner, whose son, Ethan, has Leukemia. “(It was) so awesome to see so many people out to support each other.”
Ethan, 3, rode on his father’s back for most of the walk, the balloons flickering off the pond as they walked by.
“He brings us hope,” said MCU’s Matt Davis, “While I could not be more proud of the $3,500 we raised for blood cancer research, what really makes an event like this worthwhile is little Ethan. We want to help find a cure, yes…but we also want to help give him a reason to smile every day. We succeeded that night.”
