Winston-Salem, NC, October 16, 2009 – Members Credit Union’s (MCU) fund-raising efforts for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is underway for the third year in a row. The Winston-Salem, Kernersville, Thomasville, High Point, and Greensboro locations are selling paper sneakers and displaying them within the lobbies of all six Triad branch locations to honor members, friends and family members who live with type one diabetes. As of October 15, employees have collected $6,535. In addition to the paper sneaker fundraiser, MCU staff members will walk during the annual Piedmont Triad JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes that will take place at Wake Forest University on Saturday, October 24.
In 2007 and 2008, MCU was honored by the JDRF Piedmont Triad Chapter with the Super Sneaker Award, an award created in 2007 to recognize outstanding sneaker sales in the region. The total amount raised with sneaker sales during 2007 and 2008 combined was nearly $18,000. Staff members hope to surpass last year’s final dollar amount of $8,760. Donations will be accepted until October 22.
