Lenoir, NC, October 18, 2008 – Members Credit Union employees, their family, friends, and credit union members from Lenoir, NC participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure, a 5k run/walk and a one-mile family fun run at Lenoir Rhyne University, in Hickory, NC. The 33-member team, who called themselves, “Super Babes,” raised over $3,000 by selling paper pink ribbons at the MCU branch located on Norwood Street in Lenoir.
“We were inspired by one of our own members, Angel Bird [MCU member],”explained Misty Boston, MCU teller, “she is a one year breast cancer survivor.”
As the fundraising efforts progressed it became evident that Angel Bird was not the only motivation for this branch to participate in the walk. Regina and Tracey both had personal connections that motivated them. One of Regina’s friends had recently lost their battle with cancer and Tracey’s mom is a breast cancer survivor. Her mother also walked with the “Super Babes”.
