MCU Chips in for VJGC

Winston-Salem, NC, May 11, 2005 -When Victory Junction Gang Camp (VJGC) needed DVD/VCR players for their volunteers, Members Credit Union came through. When VJGC needed a state-of-the-art volleyball net system, Members Credit Union was there. When VJGC needed Crew Chief volunteers, Members Credit Union sent its troops. And now that the camp is in need of kid-friendly tables for their dining facilities, Members Credit Union is leading the charge.
Members Credit Union’s 11th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, held on May 6 at the exclusive Pine Brook Country Club in Winston-Salem, assembled nearly one hundred credit union members, employees and select employee group executives to raise the funds necessary to purchase twenty safe and durable dining tables for the Victory Junction Gang Camp’s Dining Hall.
Pattie Petty, who along with her husband Kyle founded the camp in honor of the late Adam Petty, was on hand to thank local credit unions for their generous donations.
“‘Camp’ does not truly describe what Victory Junction is about. We have seen 1,500-1,800 ill children at VJGC to date and twenty-six different disease groups. These are the types of children who can either go to the hospital or go home,” Pattie explained. “[Credit Unions] have been one of our biggest supporters, raising over $1.5 million.”
Members Credit Union delivered a truck full of unfinished Asian oak tables on May 2. The tables are to be painted, decorated and ‘kid-proofed’ by the end of the month. The $9,000 spent on the tables was partially absorbed by the $5,000 in tournament hole sponsorships and player fees. The remaining balance will be paid for by Members Credit Union.
“Our old dining hall tables were fabricated at Petty Enterprises and were unsafe.” Pattie continued. “We are so grateful to get more colorful and substantial tables.”
Golfers from Leggett & Platt finished with the lowest gross score of 59 in the Captain’s Choice format. Ameritex Yarn’s Harold Buchanan and Liberty Hardware’s Gay Collins won the “Closest to the Pin” challenge, while Fred Eisel and Gay Collins won the longest drive competition.

About Victory Junction Gang Camp The Victory Junction Gang Camp is a non-profit camp that was set up to enrich the lives of children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses by creating camping experiences that are exciting, fun, physically safe and medically sound. Founded by Kyle and Pattie Petty in honor of their son Adam, the camp opened in June 2004. All children who attend Victory Junction would not otherwise be able to attend camp because of their special needs. No child or family will have to pay to attend Victory Junction.
