March 22, 2005 - Fayetteville’s Connie Baggett is $250 richer today thanks to Members Credit Union’s “The Buck$ Start Here” checking account promotion. Baggett, an employee of Maidenform, qualified to receive a scratch off card game piece by opening a checking account with the Hope Mills branch manager, Richard Smith.
“I scratched it off and it said $250!” Baggett recalls, “I kept asking Richard ‘is that what I won? Is that what I won?’ I couldn’t believe it!”
“The Buck$ Start Here” promotion was designed to encourage members to sign up for the credit union’s no fee checking accounts. Every member who gets approved for a checking account receives a scratch off card that has cash prizes ranging from $5 to $250.
“Credit Unions are well-known for their great auto loan rates and high savings account returns,” comments Eric Stiff, Members Credit Union VP of Marketing. “What too often gets overlooked is our free checking accounts. ‘The Buck$ Start Here’ is a way to remind everyone about this great product.”
Although Baggett was given the prize money in cash, she immediately deposited the money into savings – a responsible act encouraged by the credit union and her church.
“My pastor has been teaching our church about saving money and helping ourselves rise out of poverty,” Baggett says, speaking of her affiliation with New Faith Holiness Church in Fayetteville. “You never know what may happen to you, so it’s good to have something to fall back on.”
Members Credit Union plans to continue the promotion through April.
